今日のお題は、『新型冷蔵庫に搭載された機能とは？』です。The refrigerator has intriguing functions that other ones don’t seem to have. First, the refrigerator can cease operations abruptly without warning and then it can restore normal functions only after it has caused all the items to rot. Fantastic!
この冷蔵庫には他の冷蔵庫には見られないであろう興味深い機能がある。先ず、何の予告もなく突然、機能を停止し、通常の機能を取り戻してくれるのは、決まって全ての食材が腐った後だ。素晴らしい！
単に壊れてる冷蔵庫じゃないか！って、そうです。古くなった冷蔵庫を皮肉っているわけですね。ちなみに、機械の故障で覚えておく必要がある単語は、malfunction です。名詞「故障、誤作動」と動詞「故障する、誤作動する」が同じ形ですね。以下、語注です。
refrigerator：冷蔵庫 上位語は、appliance ですね。
intriguing：興味深い 類義語は、interesting です
function：機能
cease：～を止める 易しい表現では、stop です
abruptly：突然
without warning：予告なしに、警告なしに

家電製品はTOEICのPart6やPart7で頻繁に出てきます。その使い方や組み立て方など、出題内容は様々ですが、慣れておくといいですね。
